Podcasts WIP

What

A collection of the podcasts that I listen to and recommend. I may not be actively listening to all of these currently, but if it is on this page, then I have listened to more than a few episodes. I always try to start at the beginning and go from there.

Why

I wanted an easier way to share my love of podcasts with others. My hope is that people who already love podcasts will be able to find new shows that are similar to ones they already love, and that people new to podcasts will be able to find some that best appeal to them.

Where

I use the Overcast app to listen to podcasts because I like its features and ease of use. There are a number of other podcast apps, including Downcast, Stitcher, Spotify, and iHeartRadio, so I recommend downloading a couple of them and testing them all out. The only app I can't recommend is Apple Podcasts, as it just wasn’t user friendly the last time I tried it.

How

The best way to navigate is by using the Filter tool to narrow down the options to ones that are specific to what you are looking for. There are 3 main fields that you can use to Filter the selection: Structure, Tags, and Network.

  • STRUCTURE: This field will let you know the podcast’s episode structure. The definitions I have used for each are:

    • Anthology - each episode (or in some cases, season) presents a new story and cast; a collection of stories centered around a similar theme, genre, or topic

    • Episodic - each episode presents a new story or topic

    • Mini-Series - a story is told and finished in a limited number of episodes

    • Seasonal - each season presents a new storyline or cast of characters

    • Serial - each episode builds on previous episodes

    • Complete - this podcast has been completed

  • TAGS: This field will let you know the topics, genres, feels, host-style, etc. Basically a place to make note of any specific feature of the podcast. This will allow you to better narrow down what you do and don’t like as well as find other shows that are similar to ones you already enjoy.

  • NETWORK: This field will show you what Network hosts the podcast. Podcasts hosted by the same Network will often have a similar feel, range of topics, producers, or hosts.

Awaiting Review!

Disclaimer:
This page is not meant as a top picks list or podcast review page, but more as a record of the podcasts that I regularly subscribe to. I do not write negative responses, mainly because listening preferences are so subjective. So if a podcast disappears from the Awaiting Review list and is not added to a category, it simply means that I did not subscribe to it.
